Board and Leadership
Bishop Lawrence Chiles
Jay Johnson, Chair
J Fred Kauffman, Treasurer
Fred grew up in Beemer, NE, and learned Spanish while serving with Mennonite Voluntary Service in Puerto Rico 1967-69. He met his wife, Minh (Nguyen) at Goshen College in 1970, and they were married in 1973. From 1976-85 they worked with Mennonite Central Committee in Guatemala (post-earthquake), India (post-cyclone) and Cambodia (post-Khmer Rouge genocide). Then from 1988-1994 they lived in Bangkok and worked with MCC and other organizations who had educational exchange programs with Vietnam.
Fred served as pastor of West Philadelphia Mennonite Fellowship 1994-2005, as MCC’s Philadelphia Program Coordinator 2005-2013, and then as Interim Pastor at Methacton Mennonite 2014-2016. He is now “retired.”
Fred & Minh have two adult sons. He enjoys woodworking, playing guitar, and having long talks over coffee.
Fred has been on the Crossroads Board since 2006. “In our MCC work, we always depended on good local partners who understood their context. That’s what Crossroads is – a good partner in Fairhill that understands how to minister to the people and situations here.”
Ben Kunkle, Secretary
Rodney Rush lives in Quakertown, PA with his wife Lynne and children Ben and Emily when they are not studying in college. Rod grew up hearing about Crossroads at West Swamp Mennonite Church, where he has been a long time member. When Rod is not working at Bergey's Commercial Tire Service in Hatfield, he enjoys bike rides with his wife and watching sports, especially baseball and the 76ers.
He also enjoys taking people to Crossroads for a visit. "I am willing to drive you down to the Fairhill section of Philly to visit Crossroads. Just let me know and away we can go."
A board member since 2007, Rod finds that he is blessed by his involvement with Crossroads.
